Elijah Gonzalez (Bronx, NY/Winston-Salem Christian) scored a career-high 23 points, and fellow freshman
Omar Nkonde (New York, NY/Thurgood Marshall Academy) also netted a career-high with 22 points as the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team closed their 2021-2022 NJCAA Region XV schedule with a 95-53 win over Ulster Community College on Thursday night at Ulster CC. With the win, the Vikings are 10-8 overall, and finish the Region XV and Mid-Hudson Conference schedules with a 4-2 record.
The Vikings will be the #3 seed for the NJCAA Region XV Championship Tournament to be held on Feb. 26-27 at Westchester Community College.
Up 9-6 early, the Vikings went on a 20-5 run over a six-minute span to go up 29-11. From there, Westchester cruised to victory. The Vikings led 46-18 at halftime, and never looked back.
Five total Vikings scored in double figures as freshman
Kai Parris (Bronx, NY/Riverdale Kingsbridge) scored 16 points,
Nokio Kennedy (Yonkers, NY/Palisade Prep) added 12 points, and
Edward Beqiri (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) added 11 points.
Westchester CC returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 when the Vikings welcome Suffolk Community College for a 1:00 p.m. start.
