(Winter Haven, FL) - Freshman
AJ Falciglia (Elmsford, NY/Stepinac) went 2 for 2 with three RBI's and two runs scored, and freshman
Don Hopper (Garrison, NY/Walter Panas HS) and
Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) added two hits and three RBI's apiece as the Westchester Community College Baseball team downed Columbia-Greene Community College, 22-7 on Sunday afternoon as part of the Russ-Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida on Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Vikings a doubleheader split for the day after Westchester suffered a 10-3 loss to Montgomery College to open the day. With the split, Westchester CC is now 4-5 for the 2022 season.
The opener saw Westchester jump out to a 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning, but seven unanswered runs by Montgomery over the next three innings all but put the game away. Down 7-1 during the top of the fourth inning, Falciglia blasted his first career home run for the Vikings to make it a 7-2 game, but that was as close as Westchester would get. Falciglia went 1 for 1, driving in two runs, while scoring a run. Defense was the culprit in this one as Westchester committed six errors, allowing six unearned runs.
The nightcap proved to be a much better game as Westchester scored at least two runs during each inning as the Vikings broke the 20-run mark for only the seventh time since the 2013 season. Westchester combined for 13 hits, with four different Vikings getting two hits apiece. Among the highlights were a two-hit, two-RBI, three-runs scored effort by
Jace Deiulio (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland HS), and a two-run home run for
CJ Spence (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon HS) during the fourth inning.
Freshman
Thomas Browne (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville HS) earned his first career win, allowing four earned runs over five innings, while striking out 11.
Westchester Community College returns to action on Monday, March 14 when the Vikings take on Niagara Community College, the nation's second-ranked team, for a 9:00 a.m. doubleheader.
