(Auburndale, FL) - Freshman
Lucas Feliciano (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas HS) went a combined 3 for 4 over two games, and freshman
Weston Baronian (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) hit his second home run of the 2022 season, but the Westchester Community College was swept by Niagara County Communty College - the nation's second-ranked team - 10-6 and 13-2 on Monday afternoon during the Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida. With the losses, Westchester CC is now 4-7 for the 2022 season.
During the opener, a five-run fourth inning for Niagara (9-1) proved to be the difference maker as Westchester otherwise proved to be stiff competition for the Thunder Wolves. The Vikings scored a run in the third inning, a run in the fourth inning, and four runs during the sixth inning, but fell just short. Feliciano went 2 for 3 with two RBI's and a run scored, while freshman
Don Hopper (Garrison, NY/Walter Panas HS) went 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Also for the Vikings, sophomore
CJ Spence (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon HS) reached base twice, scored a run, and had an RBI double. Freshman
Matt Jacobson (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley HS) pitched into the fourth inning, allowing five earned runs, while striking out three. Freshman
Bobby Beaton (White Plains, NY/Eastchester HS) enjoyed a terrific game in relief, pitching 2.1 innings without allowing a run, while striking out three.
The nightcap proved to be a game far closer than the score indicated as the Thunder Wolves held a 3-2 lead after four innings, but rallied to score 10 runs over the final two innings to secure the win. Baronian's home run was a blast to left field during the fourth inning, and he also scored Westchester's first run in the second inning to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Vikings had only five players reach base safely during the game.
Westchester CC returns to action on Wednesday, March 16 when the Vikings play a single game, facing Kirkwood Community College (Iowa), the nation's third-ranked team, at 3:30 p.m. in Winter Haven, Florida.
