(Auburndale, FL) - Freshman
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) enjoyed the finest day of his young career, going 3 for 4 with five RBI's, including two home runs, and the Viking pitching staff combined to allow only two earned runs over seven innings, as the Westchester Community College Baseball team broke a two-game losing streak with a 9-6 win over Waubonsee Communty College on Thursday morning at Auburndale High School in Auburndale, Florida. With the win, Westchester CC is now 5-7 for the 2022 season, and is 2-3 during their Spring Break trip to Florida.
Waubonsee had the upper hand for much of the game as the Chiefs led 3-0 after the top of the first inning, 4-3 after two innings, and 5-3 after four innings. However, the Vikings would explode for three runs during the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
Frias gave the Vikings their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when he launched a three-run home run to left field to make it a 6-5 game. After Waubonsee tied things during the top of the sixth inning, a
Lucas Feliciano (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas HS) home run put the Vikings up 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth. And Westchester wasn't done there. With two outs, Frias returned to the plate, and blasted a two-run home run to make it a 9-6 game. Frias now leads Westchester CC with 11 RBI's for the 2022 season.
Freshman
Alvy Grullon (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) did not factor into the decision, but he allowed only two earned runs over 5.1 innings, striking out five, while walking only one. Two other Viking pitchers did not allow Waubonsee to score, including freshman
Thomas Browne (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville HS), who earned the win after allowing one only baserunner over 1.1 innings.
Six different Vikings collected hits, including freshman
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS) and freshman
Jace Deiulio (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland HS), who each had a hit and scored two runs.
Westchester CC returns to action later on Thursday, March 17, when the Vikings face Hudson Valley Community College at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
