Thomas Browne (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville HS) allowed four earned runs over 6.1 outstanding innings of work, and freshman
AJ Falciglia (Elmsford, NY/Stepinac) went 2 for 3 with three RBI's and a run scored, but the Westchester Community College Baseball team saw its 2022 season come to an end with a 6-4 loss to Ulster Community College at the NJCAA Region XV Championships on Sunday morning. The game was played at Nyack High School.
With the loss, the Vikings finish the 2022 season with a 22-20 overall record.
Ulster got on the board quickly, scoring two unearned runs during the first inning to take a 2-0 lead, but Westchester made it a 2-1 game during the top of the second inning when Falciglia scored on a wild pitch. An inning later, Falciglia put the Vikings in the lead with a two RBI double that scored
Weston Baronian (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) and
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) to make it 3-2.
However, Ulster scored twice during the bottom of the third inning to re-take the lead, 4-3.
Westchester made one last stand during the top of the fifth inning, scoring on an error to tie the game 4-4. But, Ulster scored twice during the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 6-4 lead that would become the final score.
Westchester finished the game with seven hits, including two from freshman
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS), but the Vikings two errors proved to be a crucial factor in the loss.
Browne was outstanding, striking out six, while walking only three batters. He threw 124 pitches over his 6.1 innings of work. Freshman
Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) pitched 1.2 perfect innings in relief, striking out two.
After the tournament ended on Monday, May 9, it was announced that Falciglia, and sophomore
CJ Spence (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon HS) were named to the All-Tournament team.
