Valhalla, NY – Avenging their 87-81 loss back on November 15
th to the Lions, The Vikings took home a solid 100-80 victory Tuesday night. The win puts Westchester to 8-10 on the year.
It was a night to be remembered by four of the Viking starters, achieving career highs in many statistical categories. Everyone in Viking Gymnasium fed off of a great first half performance by Westchester. The Lions (11-6) would score the first points in the game on a lay-up. That would be the last time they would score until the 11:30 mark. The Vikings would go on an astonishing 21-0 run to break open the game and never look back. The run would eventually end at the 9:50 mark where the Vikings would outscore Raritan 25-2. Westchester collectively hit five three-pointers with the balanced scoring offense of
Jaiden Brown (Putnam Science Academy/Cambria Heights, NY),
Omar Nkonde (Thurgood Marshall Academy/Harlem, NY),
Ed Beqiri (Archbishop Stepinac HS/Yonkers, NY), and
Trevor Mooney (Mamaroneck HS/Larchmont, NY).
The second half saw a more dominant scoring attack inside the arc by Nkonde. 23 of his career high 31 points came within the final 20 minutes of the ball game, keeping the Lions at bay. The Viking lead would get as high as 28 points before the Lions would cut it back to 20 to end the game.
Brown had a career high 24 points and seven rebounds. Omar, on top of his career high 31 points, also had a career high 18 rebounds and four blocks in the victory. Mooney's five three-pointers, 27 points total, 14 rebounds, and four steals were all career highs for the freshman. Rounding out the night, Beqiri had a career high 10 assists with his 16-point performance.
