Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Vikings First Half Lead Pierced By #4 Knights

Valhalla, NY – Despite holding a two-point lead at half against the fourth-ranked Knights, the Vikings fell to Rhode Island 84-53.

Westchester took the lead early in the first quarter before the Knights would go on a 10-0 run to push them ahead by seven. Irene Maris (Tuckahoe HS/Bronxville, NY) would cover a three-point play the old fashion way to cut the lead back down to four before another 7-0 run by CCRI would put them up by eight ending the first quarter.

Quarter number two would see a better offensive performance by the Vikings which was dominated by Adriana McFadden (Ossining HS/Ossining, NY) and Lanaysa Pridgen (Gorton HS/Yonkers, NY). They would combine for 17 out of the 18 points scored by Westchester's offense. The Vikings continued to trail the Knights (15-2) until the three-minute mark when Pridgen got the go-ahead fast break layup. She would put SUNY WCC up four before a last second jumper by Elizabeth Bruno on Rhode Island.

Coming out of halftime, CCRI showed why they were ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division III latest poll. The Knights would open the third quarter on a 20-0 run to take back the lead before a McFadden lay-up would end the Vikings scoring drought and ultimately put the game away. Turnovers and missed shots by Westchester were a key factor throughout the game.

Rhode Island was lead by Maggie Schwab's game high 26 points and 12 rebounds. The Vikings were lead by Pridgen with a career high 21 points, 5-9 from beyond the arc, and McFadden who had 19 points, 11 rebounds.

The loss pushes Westchester to 5-13 overall. The Vikings get a well-deserved eight day break before their next game on Saturday January 28th when they host LaGuardia CC for a 1pm game.
