Valhalla, NY – Powered by five Viking players with double-digit points, Westchester cruised past LaGuardia Community College 104-33. With the win, SUNY WCC improves to 10-11 on the year.
When really broken down, basketball fundamentally comes down to three concepts; limit offensive turnovers, create opportunities to score, and be defensively sound. Westchester excelled at all three Saturday afternoon. The 104 points scored was the most this season, the 21 steals as a team was a season high, and the six offensive turnovers were the second lowest all season!
The Vikings put the game away early with an early 16-0 run to start the game. Westchester was led by
Yave Cruz's (Palisades Prep/Yonkers, NY) five three-pointers en-route to his 22-point game.
The second half saw much of the same from SUNY WCC with
Yenfry Paulino (North Rockland HS/West Haverstraw, NY) performing. Paulino dropped 14 of his 18 points in the second half to help coast to the win.
The Vikings were also powered by
Trevor Mooney's (Mamaroneck HS/Larchmont, NY) 19 points,
Ed Beqiri's (Archbishop Stepinac HS/Yonkers, NY) 14 points, and
Omar Nkonde's (Thurgood Marshall Academy/Harlem, NY) 12 points. Omar contributed 12 rebounds to record his fifth double-double of the season. He is also 21 points away from 500 career points.
The Vikings next game will be on February 2
th when they host Rockland Community College for a 7pm game here at Viking Gymnasium.
