Women's Basketball Out-Squeezed By SUNY Orange

Middletown, NY – The Vikings fell in a close game to the Colts of SUNY Orange last night 68-61 moving their record to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in Conference play.
 
Both teams seemed to be very evenly matched. The Colts would get out to a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Their lead would be cut to just five at half. SUNY WCC would continue to keep the game close thanks to continuous turnovers by SUNY Orange during the course of the game. The Colt lead would be cut down to just six points at the end of the third. Westchester's defense would hold the Colts to just 13 points for the quarter. Heading into the fourth and final quarter of regulation, both teams' offense would see an explosion of points, however, Orange would hold onto the lead and come out victorious.
 
Westchester would be led by five players with double-digit points on the evening. Milagros Alston had a team high 13 points while Natasha White, Jaida Tejada, Chynna Mincey, and Baronique Russell would all have 11 points apiece. Both Mincey and White would add 10 rebounds while Russell would add a team-high 11 rebounds on the evening. The Vikings were plagued by at 36% shooting percentage and a 41% free-throw percentage with 24 turnovers.
 
SUNY WCC returns to action tomorrow evening, November 30th, for a 5pm home game against Conference/Regional opponent Rockland Community College. If you cannot make it to Viking Gymnasium, the game will be streamed live via the Westchester Vikings Sports Network on Facebook.
