Valhalla, NY – Behind
Wyatt Triestman's 23 point night, SUNY Westchester improves their Mid-Hudson Conference record to 2-1 with an 86-74 win over the Hawks of SUNY Rockland.
Triestman would start the game off with a bang nailing a three-pointer from the corner setting the tone early against the Hawks. However, Rockland would answer back with an 8-0 run bringing the clock down to just under 16 minutes. The Hawks would continue to hold the lead until the 8:37 mark where a
Jaiden Brown lay-up would tie the game at 16. The teams would trade points for the next minute and a half before the Vikings would go on a 10-0 run thanks to two three-pointers from Triestman and four free-throws from
Aaron Nicholas. SUNY Westchester would head into the half with a solid 41-25 lead.
The second half would see both Brown and Nicholas step up on the offensive side and help with the Vikings victory. Westchester would see their 16 point lead fluctuate to as low as five points at the 14:28 mark before
Anwar Zahzam would add a three-pointer to put the Vikings back up eight. From that point onward, SUNY Westchester's lead would not get lower than 10 points to finish out the game. The Hawk offense would be led by Emanuel Barkor who had a game high 25 points.
Besides Triestman's 23 points, the Vikings would be led by Nicholas' 21 points, 11 of which came from the free-throw line, and 14 points from Brown.
Mo Fofana would add 11 points while
Josendy Nova would add six points and 12 rebounds in the victory.
Westchester's next game will be on Tuesday December 5
th when they travel up to Sullivan County to take on the Generals of SUNY Sullivan. Tip-off at the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse will be around 7pm.
