Valhalla, NY – The Vikings win-streak came to an end at 14 games Saturday afternoon with a split against Sullivan Community College. Westchester commands first place in the Mid-Hudson Conference at 7-1 and is 32-4 overall.
GAME 1: 11-6 W
One of the most thrilling games at Vikings Field thus far in the 2023 season. SUNY Sullivan came in hungry for their first win over Westchester in their series. The Generals would get on the scoreboard first with a two-run inning in the top of the second off Viking starting Jackson Kossow (Somers HS/Somers, NY). SUNY WCC would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Vikings would take the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the third scoring three runs. The Generals would seem to hang around the game until the bottom of the fifth, when Marc Stockhausen (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) would seal the Vikings victory with a three-run blast over the left-field fence to put Westchester up 10-4. Luisbert Frias (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) would add two hits and three RBI's in the win. Kossow would earn his fourth win of the year going five innings, striking out six and giving up two earned runs.
GAME 2: 7-1 L
Westchester's timely hitting had gone cold in game two of the day's doubleheader. The Vikings would struggle offensively to string together anything off of Sullivan's pitcher Jack Clifford who would get the complete game victory. The lone Viking run would come off the bat of Anthony Dolce (North Salem HS/North Salem, NY) in the bottom of the second scoring Matt Antolino which would cut the General lead to two. Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff HS/Briarcliff, NY) would add two hits of his own in the loss. Michael Cox (Walter Panas HS/Cortlandt Manor, NY) would earn his first loss of the year going four and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing one earned run and striking out six.
The loss is the first for Westchester in Conference play and only their fourth all season. The Vikings next game will be tomorrow, April 18th at Manhattanville College when they take on the Valiant's JV team. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
