Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Vikings 'Cruz' to Victory Scoring 129 on Sharks

Valhalla, NY – The Vikings offense exploded Saturday afternoon against Suffolk County with a 129-65 win.

In their previous match-up, the Vikings barely edged the Sharks out in Selden, NY 72-70 thanks to some key late-game free throws. Westchester coming off a loss against Receiving Votes SUNY Orange in their previous game, looked for revenge.

SUNY WCC would open up the first half with a 15-0 run before two free throws were made by the Sharks at the 14:12 mark. The Vikings would hold Suffolk to single digit points until the 8:36 mark while being up by 32. Westchester would go up by as much as 40 points at the two-minute mark. The 68 points scored would be the most points scored in a half in program history. Yenfry Paulino would contribute 21 points and go 8 for 9 on the floor while Elijah Hernandez added 17 points. Yave Cruz would have 12 points and six assists in the half. The Vikings would shoot an incredible 73% from the floor and 53% from beyond the arc.

The second half saw much of the same from SUNY Westchester. The Vikings would go up by 45 at the 16:42 mark thanks to a Wyatt Triestman layup. Westchester would score their 100th point halfway through the second half on a good jumper by Cruz. Yave would add another 18 points in the half while Hernandez added 11 points. Both Paulino and Triestman contributed 10 points each.

In total, Westchester was led by Paulino who had a game-high 31 points, followed by Cruz who had a career-high 30 points and 17 rebounds. Hernandez would add 28 points and nine assists followed by Triestman who had 16 points and 17 rebounds.

The Vikings look to their next game where they'll face Conference/Regional foe SUNY Sullivan in a pivotal match-up! Tip-off will be at 7pm in Viking Gymnasium on Thursday February 15th.
