Box Score Valhalla, NY – As the saying goes, anything is possible in the game of baseball. That held true yesterday when the Vikings came back to beat the Hawks of Rockland Community College 15-13 to earn their first Mid-Hudson Conference win of the season.
Westchester would open the game scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a flurry of walks, sprinkled in with a few hits and ending with a blast over the left-center field fence by
Mike Tiseo. The Vikings would add another run in the bottom of the second to pad their lead to 10-0. One would think, 10 runs would easily be enough to coast to a victory. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the case. The Hawks would answer back with six runs of their own cutting the Westchester lead in half off starting pitcher
Tommy Poggi. Rockland would then continue to inch closer to the Viking lead until the seventh inning when they would take their first lead of the game 13-11.
With three potential innings left, SUNY WCC would now have to somehow find the urgency to claw back and regain what was once a 10-run lead. Westchester would tie the game back thanks to some key walks. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth,
Derek Beloff-Davis would rope a fly ball to left field forcing the left fielder to run in and commit an error. Two runs would cross the plate for the Vikings putting them ahead 15-13.
AJ Falciglia would close out the ninth earning his first victory of the year.
Westchester looks to continue their win streak with game two of the series today at 3:30pm right here at Vikings Field.
