January 11, 2025 - Valhalla, NY
It was important for the WCC's men's basketball team to get off to a good start for the 2nd half of the season. The Vikings welcomed the Falcons of Lackawanna College to Viking Gymnasium for the first game out of the break. The layoff between games seemed to have helped as Westchester came out strong and kept the scoring going consistently for both halves of play. When the final buzzer sounded, Westchester had pulled away for the 98-79 victory.
Sophomore
Elijah Hernandez led all scorers and was joined by three other teammates who scored in double figures. Hernandez contributed a season high 33 points, shooting 7-9 from behind the arc, and added 5 assists.
Robert Bori continued his strong play scoring 18 points and falling one rebound short of a double-double with 9.
Mujahid Dine Yacoubou did notch a double double with 17 points and a season high 18 rebounds. Muja sits 7th in the NJCAA Division II in rebounds per game. Sophomore
Dominique Bautista had his best game to date, contributing 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Westchester held a lead for most of the game, but it was a shootout early. Lackawanna kept up with the pace of the Viking attack and at halftime, WCC led 51-47. After the break, WCC tightened up on defense and held the Falcons to just 32 points the remainder of the game. That allowed the Vikings to pull away late and seal the victory.
With the win, SUNY Westchester moves to 8-8 on the season. They return to action on Saturday, January 11th as they welcome Albany College of Pharmacy to Viking Gymnasium. Tip off is at 2pm.
