Westchester hosted the County College of Morris Titans on their home court last night, seeking redemption after a tough loss to the Titans in November. The game was an intense back-and-forth affair, with both teams displaying impressive skill and determination. Ultimately, the Vikings emerged victorious with a narrow 90-86 overtime win.
The first half saw high energy from both the players and the crowd, as WCC and CCM exchanged steady scoring runs. Chris Kirkland, Roland Thenor, Dominique Bautista, and Elijah Hernandez each contributed 8 points, while Mujahid Dine Yacoubou added 6 and Robert Bori chipped in 4. At halftime, Westchester held a slim 42-36 lead.
Despite trailing by 6 points entering the second half, the Titans refused to back down. Their offense surged, and with 12:59 remaining in the game, they had built a 12-point lead over the Vikings. Westchester's offense, however, remained relentless. Elijah Hernandez netted 13 points, while Mujahid Dine Yacoubou added another 11. With just 8 seconds left, the Vikings found themselves down by 2 points, but two clutch free throws from Hernandez tied the game at 80-80, sending it into overtime.
The next five minutes would prove to be crucial if WCC wanted to redeem themselves against CCM. After baskets from Elijah Hernandez, Roland Thenor, and Mujahid Dine Yacoubo, Westchester secured their long-awaited redemption against County College of Morris.
The Vikings will travel to North Branch, NJ to face Raritan Valley Community College tomorrow, February 1st.
