Fort Dodge, Iowa – Two Westchester runners capped off the cross country season with style out at the NJCAA Division III National Championships. Sophomore
Valerya Ospina, back for her second year with the Vikings represented the women's team, having earned All Region honors at the Region 15 Championships. Newcomer Eric Soliz represented the men also after finishing All-Region in the men's race.Â
The National Championship was held at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The team arrived on Thursday for practice and the pre-event banquet. When they woke up for the race on Friday, the landscape had turned white due to the season's first snowfall. That made for a very interesting race day, one that many of the competitors were not used to.Â
Ospina responded to the challenge in the women's race, stopping the clock at 24:21 over the 5k course, good for 37
th place overall out of a total of 80. Her top half performance was the best in recent history for the Vikings.Â
Soliz ran the 8K course in 35:44, having struggled a bit on the slippery terrain. He finished 94
th overall.Â
The race caps off a successful campaign for the Vikings as both the men's and women's team ran a full schedule. The teams hope to build off this year's success and continue to grow headed into the 2026 season.Â
