Valhalla, NY - Over the weekend the Vikings of Westchester Community College traveled up north to Rochester for the annual Monroe College Tournament. This featured teams such as WCC, Orange County Community College, Erie Community College and of course Monroe Community College.
Game 1 would have our Vikings taking on Erie Community College. Throughout the first half it was a back and forth affair. After almost 40 first half three's attempted and tons of fast break attempts the teams found themselves dead locked at 50 to begin the second half. To begin the second half WCC would hit their first slump of the game which dug them a 10 point hole that they were never truly able to climb out of. The Kats of Erie County ended up seizing control and never giving it back up. Sophomore Fair Joseph(Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) scored 30 points in the loss.
Game 2 on Sunday wouldn't be any easier as Westchester matched up against the #16 team in the Country Monroe Community College. The game started in a similar fashion to game one high paced and lots of threes early. After that it would slow down and both teams played solid halfcourt offense. However, WCC found themselves down 12 to the 16th ranked team in the country.
You never wanna dig yourself a hole against good teams and unfortunately the boys couldn't dig themselves out of this one. They had cut the lead to 3 at one point in a valiant comeback effort pushing a very good Monroe team to their limits. Sophomore Tiziah Spears(Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) was at the forefront of the comeback scoring 17 points and 13 of them coming in the second half.
It is short rest for Westchester as they suit back up Tuesday November 18th to face Orange County Community College who is now ranked #20 in the Nation. This will take place at 7:00 PM in Middletown, NY.
