Valhalla, NY - After advancing to 3-1 with a win over Middlesex last week the Lady Vikings traveled way up north to compete in the annual Monroe College Tournament.
For game 1 they took on Lackawanna College from Pennsylvania. After arriving a little late the Ladies jumped off the bus and it felt like they couldn't miss in the first half. They scored 43 first half points and had a 24 point lead at half time. The scoring definitely slowed down in the second half but WCC held strong and rode the 20 point halftime lead to victory winning 62-41. Freshman Saniya Bell(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) had a double double and a team high 28 points in the win. Also Freshmen Mariah Mills(New City, NY/North Rockland High School) finished with 13 points and 6 assists. Also, congratulations to sophomore Pieta Trinidad(Yonkers, NY/Gorton High School) on scoring your first collegiate basket.
Day 2 had a much tougher opponent for WCC in the name of the Tribunes of Monroe Community College. Monroe had a deep team and kept Westchester at bay for the most of the game. They held a 10 point lead for most of it but at one point the Lady Vikings made their run. They cut it to 6 and had the pressure on Monroe but they were just too deep of a team to overcome that day. The tribunes ended up winning by 14 and a score of 77 to 63. WCC had 4 girls score in double digits but it still wasn't enough.
There is not much time to rest for the Lady Vikings as they are back in action this Tuesday as they take on Orange Community College in the first conference matchup of the season. This will take place in Middletown, NY at 5:00 PM.
