This past Thursday night, seven SUNY Westchester Vikings were honored on Sophomore Night: Chris Kirkland, Efrain Davila, Elijah Hernandez, Roland Thenor, Mujahid Dine Yacoubou, Dominique Bautista, and Robert Bori. Each of these players have made a tremendous impact on the team, and are exemplary student-athletes.
Following the ceremony, the Vikings welcomed the Ulster Senators to Viking Gymnasium. The first half was a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging points and keeping the score neck and neck. By halftime, WCC trailed by just two points, with the scoreboard reading 45-43. Westchester came out of the locker room ready to claim their win. Their offense was on fire, with four Vikings scoring in the double digits. They were led by Elijah Hernandez who hit a career-high of 50 points in a single game, contributing almost half of WCC's final score. Following Hernandez was Robert Bori with 26 points, Chris Kirkland with 14 points, and Mujahid Dine Yacoubou adding another 11. SUNY Westchester soared past the Senators, leaving a final score of 108-83 on the court.
Westchester Community College then took on Nassau Community College on Friday, February 21st in Garden City, NY. Once again, the Vikings were led by Elijah Hernandez who contributed an impressive 48 points. Sophomore, Hernandez, is now just two points away from earning 1,000 career points. After an intense battle, WCC defeated the Nassau Lions 99-92.
