Vikings Baseball Splits Doubleheader: Bounce Back Strong After Tough Loss

After having to postpone their first five games of the season, the Vikings were eager to get back on the field. They traveled down to Delaware to take on the Delaware Technical Community College Roadrunners in a doubleheader on February 22nd.

Game one kicked off early at 11am on Saturday morning. It was a slow start, with no runs in the first two innings. Delaware opened the scoring with a run in the third inning and extended their lead with two more in the fifth. In the 6th The Vikings would finally come alive, scoring 3 to tie the game. As tension mounted in the final inning, Westchester managed to add another run, but Delaware responded with two of their own, sealing a narrow 5-4 victory.   Heymach, Hernandez, Cohen, and Paredes all collected hits in the loss.

The second game began at 2pm, with WCC seeking redemption. The Vikings faced early pressure as the Roadrunners jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning. From there, both teams remained locked in a defensive battle, with no additional runs scored through the sixth inning.  Westchester, however, found its breakthrough in the seventh. A three-run surge turned the tide, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Peter Portugues, Michael Tiseo, and Joseph Cohen were key contributors to the comeback win.

Westchester Community College is set to play SUNY Adirondack at Vikings Field on Saturday, March 1st in a doubleheader, 12:00pm and 2:30pm.
