The Westchester Vikings traveled down to the sunshine state to compete in the RussMatt Tournament. They started off the tournament right with a win against the Salem Community College Mighty Oaks, 5-2.
The scoring got started in the second inning, when Joseph Cohen from the Vikings grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Nick Vendola to cross home plate. Shortly after, Lucas Feliciano delivered a crucial single, driving in two additional runs. Salem responded in the third inning by putting their first run on the board, but Westchester promptly answered with runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. The game concluded after the top of the seventh inning after the Mighty Oaks scored one last run. Despite their efforts, they couldn't keep up with the Vikings momentum.
WCC showcased their determination in the tournament's opening game. Mike Dawson delivered a standout performance on the mound, pitching all seven innings with poise. He allowed just five hits, two earned runs, and struck out seven batters. Westchester also stole twelve bases throughout the duration of the game, with Freddy Heymach, Joseph Cohen, and Lucas Feliciano each swiping three. Heymach went two for two with an RBI, while Feliciano was one for four with two RBI's. The Vikings' scoring efforts were led by Nick Vendola, Peter Portugues, Randel Weisner, Joseph Cohen, and Elijah Villanueva.
