Vasilios Kelesidis dominated throughout his 6 innings of work. Battling through windy weather, Kelesidis gave up one earned run, struck out 12 batters, and surrendered only three hits. The second inning was momentous for the Vikings. Joseph Cohen drove in Peter Portugues with an RBI single. Moments later, Freddy Heymach drove in Cohen after he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lucas Feliciano stepped up to bat and crushed a two-run homer, giving Westchester a commanding 4-0 lead.
SUNY Westchester had a remarkable start to the tournament, securing victories in both of their opening games. Joseph Cohen was two for four with two RBIs and two runs scored. Also contributing two runs was Nick Vendola and Freddy Heymach. Lucas Feliciano, Michael Tiseo, and Peter Portugues also each contributed one run each.
The Vikings will look to keep their momentum rolling as they return to action tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. for a doubleheader showdown against Massasoit Community College in the Russmatt Tournament.
