The Vikings were back at it again in Winter Haven, FL for day two of the RussMatt tournament, this time facing the Massasoit Community College Warriors in a doubleheader. With impressive play on offense and defense, Westchester was able to secure both wins.
Westchester was first to get on the scoreboard as they scored four runs in the fourth inning when Joseph Cohen doubled home Nick Vendola and Peter Portugues. Massasoit plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 4-2. Freddy Heymach blasted a solo HR in the sixth inning to add an important run. It was one they would need as Massasoit scored two in the bottom of the seventh. Later in the game, the Vikings added two more runs on RBI singles from Lucas Feliciano and Jhonny Ortiz. In the bottom of the 7th, as the Warriors were down to their last at bats, Heymach would make a diving catch on a bloop behind second, preventing Massasoit from scoring as they threatened to tie the game. The game came to an end with a Westchester win, 6-4.
There were several Vikings that made contributions to the win. Heymach had key plays on offense and defense that were crucial for the win, as he was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. Cohen was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI while Feliciano was 2 for 4. Robert Keller pitched 7 innings scattering 9 hits and striking out 10 for his first win of the season.
