Westchester Claims Victory Over Monroe Mustangs In Close Game

March 5, 2025
West Harrison, NY - Westchester Community College Baseball hosted Monroe University at Silver Lake Park this past Tuesday. The Vikings were able to win in thrilling fashion, defeating the Mustangs by a score of 7-6.

It was a slow start to the game for both teams until the third inning, when Westchester plated two runs. With bases loaded, Nick Vendola hit a single down the left field line, scoring Joseph Cohen and Michael Tiseo. Monroe was held scoreless until the top of the fifth when they put three runs on the board to take the lead 3-2. In the sixth inning, the Mustangs added another run to double their lead. The Vikings quickly answered in the bottom of the inning when Lucas Felcian blasted a 3 run home run to take back the lead back the lead 5-4.

WCC wasn't able to hold the lead as they gave up two runs in the 8th to trail again 6-5. Down to their last at bat in the 9th, the Vikings had to act fast if they wanted to claim the win. Pinch running for Michael Tiseo, Peter Portugues scored after Elijah Villanueva doubled to left field. One batter later, Jhonny Ortiz knocked in Villanueva with a clutch single up the middle to secure the walk off win!  Anthony Mante started for the Vikings notching five strikeouts over 4 and a third innings of work.  Christian Peralta earned the win after finishing off the top of the 9th inning, keeping the Vikings in the game to set up Ortiz's heroics.

With the win, the Vikings move to 5-2 on the season.  The team returns to action tomorrow, as they take on Susex at Vikings Field. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:30pm.
