Yesterday, WCC baseball returned home to play in a doubleheader against University of Connecticut at Avery Point. Ultimately the Vikings fell short in both games.
The first game began with UCAP scoring two runs in the first inning. Westchester responded with a run by Nick Vendola in the bottom of the first. Unfortunately for the Vikings, this would be their only run in the game. UCAP would go on to score three more runs in the second, and seven in the final inning. The final score was 12-1.
In the second game, WCC was hoping to bounce back from their loss earlier in the day. Both teams started off the first inning with three runs. Westchester would take the lead with two runs in the second. UCAP got an additional four runs past the Vikings in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Westchester would even the score, 7-7. Having two runs each was Freddy Heymach and Brandon Hernandez. Also reaching home plate was Randel Weisner, Joseph Cohen, and Elijah Villanueva. In the final two innings, UCAP got 5 runs in, while Vikings couldn't get any past them. After being tied up twice, the game ended in a Vikings loss, 12-7.
Looking ahead, Westchester baseball will play Raritan Valley Community College back home at VIkings Field on Tuesday, April 22nd. The game will begin at 3:30pm.
