Vikings Battle all the Way to the End Against Raritan Valley

Jan 26

Valhalla, NY- It was a big weekend for the Westchester Men's Basketball Team as many alumni were in attendance including legendary coach Ralph Areita who won so many games and region and conference championships with the Vikings in his time.

On alumni day the Men found themselves in a rematch against Raritan Valley Community College. When they played on December 11th the Lions were ranked 17th in the country for Division 2 and won by 10 points. Today WCC looked for revenge.

Right from the tip it was a competitive game that was played with a 10 point margin for almost the whole game. With about 8 minutes left Westchester found themselves down 10, but made their run. Freshman Arber Mustafaj(Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Montessori Academy) hit a huge 3 to cut the lead to 2 with about a minute to go. Westchester played incredible defense down the stretch and even on the biggest possession of the game but a scrambled play led to a deep three from Raritan Valley from about 28 feet which took the life out of WCC. It was once again a terrific effort but they came up just short.

Freshman Lucas Feliciano led the Vikings with 16 points, his season and career high. In his first start of the season Mustafaj also added double digit points scoring 12.

The Vikings will be back in action this Wednesday as they travel out to Pennsylvania to take on Lackawanna Community College. This will take place at 6:00 PM in Scranton Pennsylvania.
