Valhalla, NY - It was a huge Wednesday for the Westchester Vikings as they traveled out to Pennsylvania to take on the red hot Falcons of Lackawanna. They had won 3 out of their last 4 including a 20 point win over the #20 ranked team in the country, Orange County.
It was such a competitive game all the way through as it always is for the Vikings. Back and forth from beginning to end and you just had this feeling that it was going to come down to the wire again. Westchester made so many big plays down the stretch. The first being freshman Cody Dinnall(Coconut Creek, FL/Monarch High School) grabbed the biggest offensive rebound of the season and scored a put back with 1 minute to go giving Westchester a two point lead. The next play the Viking got a huge stop defensively forcing a turnover and came down once again on offense looking to close the game out. They ran a great offensive set that finished with Freshmen Lucas Feliciano(Nyack, NY/Nyack High School) swinging it to his fellow freshmen Arber Mustafaj(Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Montessori Academy) who hit a dagger three with 28 seconds to go to put the Vikings up 5. Some clutch free throw shooting late led to an 8 point 76-68 win and their first win of the new year.
In an all around great team win sophomore Isaac Turay(Freetown, Sierra Leone/ Ahmadiyya Muslim Senior Secondary School) led the way for WCC with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Right behind him was Sophomore Tiziah Spears(Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) with 14 points. Feliciano also had 15 in the win and that gave him double digit points in back to back games
SUNY WCC returns to action this Saturday at home in a rematch with the County College of Morris. They will look to avenge their loss from earlier this season. The game will be at 2:00 PM right here in Viking Gymnasium. Come out and support!!!
