Valhalla, NY - In a game packed with momentum swings, clutch hits, and late-inning drama, Westchester CC and Manhattanville JV battled to an 11-11 stalemate on Tuesday.
Austin Jorgensen(Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) led the offensive charge with a dominant performance, going 4-for-5 at the plate. The outfielder sparked the lineup all afternoon, delivering singles in the first, second, and fifth innings before ripping a double in the seventh.
Manhattanville struck first, capitalizing on a wild pitch in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead. But the Vikings wasted no time responding. In the bottom half, Westchester seized control with a three-run outburst, highlighted by RBI singles from Jorgensen and John Avellino(New Rochelle, NY/Salesian High School) to flip the game.
The Vikings kept their foot on the gas in the second inning, unleashing a five-run surge that put Manhattanville on its heels. Freddy Heymach(Pawling, NY/Pawling High School) jumpstarted the inning with an RBI double, Mercer Jordan(Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) followed with a run-scoring single, and Jorgensen delivered again with another RBI knock. Oscar Almanzar(Dominican Republic) delivered the biggest blow of the inning, driving a two-run double into the gap to extend the lead.
Holding a commanding advantage, Westchester appeared in control—until Manhattanville mounted a stunning comeback in the sixth.
Taking advantage of traffic on the bases, Manhattanville erupted for six runs in a chaotic inning. Timely hits from the Valiants, and two bases-loaded walks completely shifted the momentum, erasing the deficit and turning the game into a dogfight.
From there, the tension only built.
Westchester continued to generate offense, finishing with an impressive 18 hits on the day. Heymach set the tone at the top of the lineup, going a remarkable 5-for-6, while Jordan and Almanzar each added multiple hits. The Vikings were aggressive on the basepaths as well, swiping five bases, with Jordan accounting for two.
On the mound, Jade Gutierrez(Carmel, NY/Carmel High School) gave Westchester a steady start, allowing just one run without surrendering a hit over two innings while striking out three.
Despite the Vikings' relentless offense, Manhattanville refused to fold.
Trailing late, they delivered in the most critical moment of the game. In the top of the ninth, with the pressure at its peak, #45 came through with a clutch single down the right field line, driving in the tying run and silencing the Vikings' momentum to even the score at 11-11.
In the end, neither side could land the final blow in a game defined by resilience and timely execution. What began as a Vikings surge turned into a back-and-forth battle, ultimately finishing as an 11-11 deadlock.Â
