Box Score 3 March 14, 2017 – Fort Pierce, FL
The Baseball team's Florida trip got off to a wet start with two games rained out in the first two days of play. The team did play well in two other games though, falling to Kirkwood in 9 innings on Sunday by the score of 3-2 and topping Bethany College 3-1 on Monday. The game vs UCONN Avery Point was suspended in the 3rd inning on Sunday and will not be continued. Monday's game vs Messiah College is rescheduled for Wednesday.
The Vikings got off to a solid start against Kirkwood putting up 2 runs in the second inning when Steve Guzman (JFK HS/Bronx, NY) scored on an error and Alex Borman (Huntington HS/Huntington, NY) scored on a passed ball. Kirkwood got one back in the bottom of the 3rd and they tacked on a run in the 6th to tie the game at 2. John Reda (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) had a solid outing pitching 7 innings giving one earned run on five hits and while striking out five. Kirkwood was able to plate a run in the 9th for what was scheduled as a 7-inning game to take the win.
WCC fared better on Monday as Luke McDonagh (Carmel HS/Carmel, NY) gave up a run in the first but nothing more as he fell short of the complete game when he got into trouble in the 7th. Alonso Tenya (Lima, Peru/Scarsdale, NY) came in to get the final out to seal the game for the Vikings. The team plated 2 runs in the 5th and an insurance run in the 6th on RBIs by Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) and Jon Carlo Angiolillo (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY).
With the split, the Vikings are 5-4 on the season and they return to action on Wednesday against Messiah College.
