The Vikings baseball team completed a successful series vs SUNY Sullivan as they took three of four games in the series. WCC took the first two games of the series up at Sullivan Community College on Thursday and Friday, then split games with the Generals at home on West Field.
On Thursday in Loch Sheldrake, the Vikings were able to use a pair of big innings to gain and hold the lead. The Generals got on the board right away with two runs in the bottom of the 1st. WCC trailed 2-1 going into the top of the 6th inning where they put up 6 runs. Sullivan would keep chipping away though and entering the top of the 9th, Westchester clung to a single run lead at 8-7. The offense exploded for 6 runs though to provide insurance on their way to the 14-7 win.
The offense was led by Brian Corporan who went 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Steve Guzman (JFK HS/Bronx, NY) and was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. CJ Sager (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) and Felix Camacho (St.HS/Bronx, NY) also chipped in with 2 RBI's each. Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) started the game and gave up two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Luis Gomez (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) entered in relief and pitched two and two thirds innings for the save.
Friday's game at Sullivan came a bit easier for the Vikings as they built a 5-1 early lead. They then scored 8 more in the top of the 4th in route to the 13-3 win in five innings.
Giordano went 4 for 4 with 3 runs and 4 RBIs. Later, Corporan and Camacho both blasted home runs to help the team extend the lead. Frankie Giuliano (Stepinac HS) got the start and pitched well scattering seven hits, giving up two earned runs, and striking out two for this 3rd win of the season.
In Game 3, the Generals got on the board with 3 runs in the top of the 1st. WCC fought right back though, picking up three runs to tie it thanks to some uneven play by the defense. Sullivan would put up eight runs in the next two innings to extend the lead to 11-3 and pull away to hand Westchester their first loss of the series, 15-5.
John Reda (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) started game four for the Vikings and was outstanding over six innings. He gave up just one run on two hits with seven strikeouts. WCC got on the board first when Camacho doubled in Guzman to plate the first run of the game. After a Sullivan homerun tied the game at 1 in the top of the 2nd, the Vikings retook the lead in the bottom of the inning after Giordano scored on an error and Jose Delacruz (George Washington HS/New York, NY) plated Guzman on a base hit. The team would not look back from there as they extended the lead to 7-1 for the win.
With the conclusion of the series the Vikings move to 22–9 on the season. They return to action on Monday as they travel to Monroe College to play at City Park at 4pm.
