Box Score 4 April 22, 2017 – Valhalla, NY
After taking a non-region game from Union by the score of 10-4 on Tuesday, the Baseball team was back in action on Thursday as they traveled to Rockland for the first of four games. The Vikings took the contest decidedly, 13-0 in five innings. Friday's game at Rockland was postponed due to rain and will be made up on Sunday, April 23 at WCC, where Rockland will be the home team.
On Thursday, Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) got the start for WCC and was dominant, pitching a shutout giving up just two hits and a walk. Giordano was also 2 for 4 at the plate, scoring two runs. The Vikings got on the board in the 4th inning with 5 runs. The biggest blow came thanks to a 3-run HR by CJ Sager (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY). Niko Hagerty (Monroe HS/Bronx, NY) went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
On Saturday, the Vikings continued their series with the Hawks in a double header at West Field. In game 1, RCC got on the board with a run in the first inning. Nick Cona (Walter Panas HS/Cortlandt Manor, NY) entered the game in relief to extinguish a bases loaded, no out situation. He would let in just the one run via an RBI groundout in the frame. From there he was solid, putting up an additional two scoreless innings, but 2 unearned runs in the 4th allowed RCC to extend the lead. The would pull away in the later innings to beat the Vikings 10-2. WCC was held to just 3 hits and scored runs via a sac fly and during a pickoff attempt.
In game two it was all WCC as they jumped on the board early thanks to two runs in first on Steve Guzman's (JFK HS/Bronx, NY) RBI ground out and a Felix Camacho (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) sacrifice fly. The Vikings kept the pressure on in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Giordano and Brian Coporan (HS for Environmental Studies/Bronx, NY).
The Vikings sealed the walk off win 13-3 in the bottom of the 5th when Corporan sent a solo shot over the right field wall to force the mercy rule. Scottie Giordano went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, while Corporan went 3 for 3 while driving in a pair. Guzman posted three RBIs in a 2 for 3 effort, while Sager and Alonso Tenya (Lima, Peru/Scarsdale) were both 2 for 2 with an RBI a piece.
Luis Gomez (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) got the start and scattered five hits over five innings of work, giving up 3 runs for the win.
The Vikings' season record now stands at 25 and 11 as they enter the final game of the series with Rockland on Sunday, April 23rd.
