Another Strong Start leads WCC Baseball past Dutchess CC

Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Sean Vanegas (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael) went 2 for 4 with three RBI's, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, and James Houlahan (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland HS) added three hits, and RBI, and two runs scored as the Westchester Community College Baseball team downed visiting Dutchess Community College, 12-4 on Friday at Viking Stadium. With their eighth win during the last 10 games, Westchetser improves to 16-9 overall, and 8-2 in both Region XV and Mid-Hudson Conference play.

Westchester has won the first two games of the four game series by a combined score of 24-4.

As was the case during a 12-0 win over the Falcons on Wednesday, Westchester put the game away early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, and 7-3 after three innings to inch closer and closer to a post-season bid. The only inning that WCC did not score was the fourth inning.

Also for Westchester, Paul Franzese (Somers, NY/Somers HS) went 2 for 4 with a run scored, while Bobby Wootten (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley HS) went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Steve Messerschmitt (Carmel, NY/Carmel HS) earned his first win of 2018, pitching four outstanding innings in relief, allowing a single earned run, while striking out three.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, April 21, completing their season with a doubleheader at Dutchess Stadium. The first game begins at 6:00 p.m.
