(Stone Ridge, NY) - For the first seven minutes of Tuesday night's men's basketball game between Westchester Community College and Ulster CC, it appeared as if the game would go right down to the wire, and it might take the kind of effort the Vikings have not had all season for Westchester to win its third straight game. For the next 33 minutes, that is just the kind of effort the Vikings received. Freshman
Justyn Huger (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall HS) notched his first career double-double with a career-high 15 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore
Anthony Monti (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) scored a career-high 19 points as Westchester exploded for a 101-69 win over the host Senators at Ulster Community College.
With the win, the Vikings are now 10-4 overall, and 2-1 in NJCAA Region XV play.
The tight start let to Westchester jumping ahead 48-35 at halftime, a lead that was not completely comfortable considering the close start. However, the Vikings opened the second half with an 11-0 run to take a 59-35 lead, and all but put the game away. Westchester led by as many 41 points, 91-50 with 5:53 to go before cruising to victory.
Freshman
Justin Mazyck (Bronx, NY/Stevenson HS) scored 18 points, while sophomore
Joe Zayer (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South HS) added 12 points.
Westchester Community College returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 14 when the Vikings host 2019 NJCAA Region XV Champion Sullivan Community College at 3:00 p.m.
