(Poughkeepsie, NY) - Entering Saturday's matinee with Dutchess Community College, the Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team knew that despite dropping the first six sets of the 2019 season, the Vikings were not far off from the Mid-Hudson Conference foes who defeated them. Four sets later, Westchester came home victorious for the first time this season, a satisfying, if not resounding 3-1 win over Dutchess as WCC improved to 1-2 overall, and 1-2 in Region XV and Mid-Hudson Conference play.
Westchester won the match 25-21, 18-25, 25-13, and 25-21 to earned their 10th consecutive victory over Dutchess, dating back to October 9, 2014.
It was a balanced effort to get Westchester past Dutchess, with outside hitter
Melody Pabon (Bronx, NY/Celia Cruz) enjoying perhaps her finest effort as a Viking. The sophomore notched a career-high eight kills, and added 14 digs and four service aces during an outstanding overall effort. Fellow sophomore
Tia Sue (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow HS) added eight service aces and six digs.
For the match, Westchester hit a season-best .064, and their combined 18 service aces and 46 digs were also their team best for the 2019 campaign.
Also for the Vikings, freshman
Cristina Stasolla (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Maria Regina) had seven assists, five digs, and three service aces, while freshman
Stefania Rinaldi (White Plains, NY/Valhalla HS) amassed six kills, five assists, and seven digs.
Westchester CC returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when the Vikings host Monroe College-Bronx campus for a 7:00 p.m. Region XV match-up.
