Athletic Director Mike Belfiore Hosts Student-Athlete Town Hall Meeting

Jul 24

(Valhalla, NY) - On Thursday, July 23, Westchester Community College Athletic Director Michael Belfiore hosted a Town Hall meeting for current and prospective student-athletes to discuss the status of the college's pandemic response efforts, and the recent decision by the NJCAA to move most fall 2020 sports to the spring 2021 semester. Dozens of student-athletes, as well as most Westchester CC coaches, attended the event.

During the forum, a variety of topics were covered, including plans for the next five months despite the fact that most Viking teams will not be able to compete until January of 2021 at the earliest. Belfiore shared plans that included the possibility of Westchester CC teams practicing on-campus during the fall semester should the college's Pandemic Response Team deem such activities to be safe and in line with the college's plan.

Belfiore also stressed the importance of a broad-based academic support program during the fall semester in an effort to promote academic eligibility and achievement for all Viking teams. He informed student-athletes in attendance that all prospective and current Westchester CC student-athletes will participate in the V-CASE (Vikings Collaborative Academic Support Environment) program during the upcoming semester. He also noted that the college's enrollment is currently growing quickly, and stressed the importance of early registration for all student-athletes.

There are plans to host additional town hall forums closer to the start of the fall semester.
