(Valhalla, NY) - Freshman
Oscar Umanzor (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) enjoyed a strong all-around game, and freshman goalkeeper
Brian Guaman (White Plains, NY/White Plains HS) made three saves, but the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team suffered a 7-0 loss to seventh-ranked Nassau Community College on Wednesday afternoon at Westchester CC. With the loss, the Vikings are now 1-1 for the 2021 season, and 1-1 in NJCAA Region XV play.
Nassau wasted no time making their presence known, scoring on their first attempt, only 20 seconds into the game. 4:40 later, the Lions struck again, putting Westchester in a 2-0 hole.
From there, the Vikings attempted to mount a comeback as Westchester controlled play for much of the remainder of the first half. The Vikings missed a penalty kick at 19:54 of the first half. Seconds later, an
Isaias Argueta (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) shot forced a sprawling save by Nassau goalkeeper Jonathan Villacis. And a minute after that, a Westchester goal was called off by an offsides.
10 minutes after the flurry of Westchester chances, Nassau made it a 3-0 game at 33:03, and the rout was on. The Lions (1-1, 1-0 NJCAA Region XV) scored four times during the second half for the 7-0 final.
Nassau had a slight advantage in shots (18-16) and corner kicks (7-5), and each team had 10 fouls.
Westchester CC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when the Vikings will face Borough of Manhattan Community College at 3:00 p.m. The game will take place at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.
