Valhalla, NY – Men's Basketball shook off a sluggish first half to pull away from Bronx on Thursday, resulting in an 88-54 win. The victory was the 5
th straight versus the Broncos, dating back to 2018.
The Vikings had a hard time finding their rhythm in the first half. Though they limited Bronx to just 20 points which allowed the team to figure things out without losing the lead. Westchester shot only 35% from the field in the half and led 32-20 before the break.
In the second half, Westchester was able to tighten things up a bit though, shooting almost 53% from the floor including almost 60% from behind the 3-point line. This afforded the Vikings a comfortable lead where they were able to get much of the team involved in the offensive attack. Five Vikings players scored at least 10 points.
Dwayne Pennicooke (Mt. Vernon, NY/Sacred Heart) led all scorers with 17 points to go with 5 steals.
Omar Nkonde (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall Academy) added 10 paired with 9 rebounds.
Yenfry Paulino (West Haverstraw/North Rockland HS) notched 12 points and 7 boards.
Jaiden Brown (Cambria Heights, NY/Jamaica) and
Yave Cruz (Yonkers, NY/Palisades Prep) chipped in with 11 points apiece.
The win evens the Vikings' season record at 2-2. Westchester returns to action on Tuesday, November 15
th when they travel to Raritan Valley for a non-region matchup. Tip-off is at 7pm.
