Free Thrown - Vikings Lose Thriller at Raritan

November 15, 2022

Branchburg, NJ – The Vikings traveled to Raritan Community College Tuesday evening in search of their third victory of the season. SUNY WCC would ultimately take a hard fought 87-81 loss to the Lions. Westchester's 55% shooting from the Free-throw line would cost them a gritty win to a solid Lions team.

Westchester came out battling from the tip with Raritan trading baskets throughout the first half. The Vikings were down as many as 11 points at the 8:48 mark but still managed to get themselves within a five-point deficit at half. Heading into the second half, SUNY WCC would see their hard work start to pay off at the 10:51 mark when they took the lead back from Raritan 62-60. The Vikings would go up as much as five points heading into the final 10 minutes of the game until the Lions tied up the score at 73 with 4:46 left on the clock. Raritan would go on an 8-0 run to seal the game and solidify their second victory of the year.

Ed Beqiri (Archbishop Stepinac/Yonkers, NY) had a career day for the Vikings. His 20 points and 12 rebounds were both career highs for the Sophomore. Omar Nkonde (Thurgood Marshall Academy/Harlem, NY) had a season high 14 points and 8 rebounds in the Westchester loss. Contributing with 10 points each were Kishaun Cole, Yenfry Paulino, and Josh Alexandre. Raritan Valley was lead by Damon Strand who had 31 points.

With the loss, Westchester falls to 2-3 on the year. Their next game will be here in Viking Gymnasium on Thursday November 17th when they open up their Region play against #13 Ranked Orange Community College starting at 7pm.
