Osso Exciting: Baseball Holds Off Morris 5-4 during final tune-up before Florida Trip

(West Harrison, NY) - Freshman Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/East Chester HS) walked twice, scored a run, and earned his first career save, and freshman AJ Falciglia (Elmsford, NY/Stepinac) went 3 for 3 with a walk, two RBI's and a run scored as the Westchester Community College Baseball team improved to 3-4 for the 2022 season with a dramatic 5-4 win over County College of Morris on Thursday afternoon at Silver Lake Park in West Harrison, New York.

Facing the Titans for the first time in at least 10 years, the Vikings wasted no time taking the lead as freshman Weston Baronian (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) blasted the game's sixth pitch over the left-centerfield fence for his first career home run, and a 1-0 Viking lead. Later in the inning, Osso walked, and Falciglia doubled him home to make it 2-0. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jace Deiulio (Mohegan Lake, NY/Mahopac HS) walked to bring home Falciglia, and make it 3-0.

From there, the Westchester bats went quiet, allowing Morris to slip back into the game. The Titans scored a run during the top of the second inning, and two more during the top of the fifth inning, to tie the game 3-3 ... setting up the most dramatic of finishes.

With one out during the bottom of the sixth inning, four consecutive Vikings walked - the final being Falciglia, who walked home Baronian, for a 4-3 lead. Up next, freshman Nick Alvarez (Yonkers, NY/Cardinal Hayes) hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home freshman Anthony Dolce (North Salem, NY/North Salem HS) to make it 5-3.

After darkness forced both teams to decide that the eighth inning would finish the game, the Titans did not go down quietly. Morris had runners on second and third with nobody out, and Osso was brought in to hold Morris at bay. The rookie closer promptly struck out a batter, but allowed a single and run to make it 5-4. However, from there, Osso removed all doubt, striking out the final two batters of the game, giving Westchester its most dramatic win of the 2022 season.

The Vikings had six hits over eight innings, and drew 11 walks as the cold conditions impacted both pitching staffs.

Freshman Amolk Bhangu (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington HS) allowed three earned runs over 4.2 solid innings, striking out five. Freshman Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) earned his first career win in relief.

Westchester CC now heads to Winter Haven, Florida for their 2022 Spring Break trip, where the Vikings are scheduled to play eight games over six days as part of the Russ Matt Invitational. Up first is a single game against Montgomery College on Sunday March 13 at 11:00 a.m.
