(Valhalla, NY) - It may have taken two full years to reach this point, but when the final out was recorded during Westchester Community College's 5-3 win over SUNY Adirondack on Saturday, March 5, it was clear that the waiting is finally over, and Westchester CC Baseball is back. Two years to the day that the Vikings last competed at home - a 12-3 win over Queensborough Community College on March 5, 2020 - freshman
Thomas Mark (Patterson, NY/Brewster HS) improved to 2-0 for the 2022 season, striking out five over six innings, and not allowing an earned run, while freshmen
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS) and
Anthony Dolce (North Salem, NY/North Salem HS) each collected two hits as the Vikings overcame an early 2-0 deficit to improve to 2-3 for the 2022 season.
Down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Dolce tied things with a two-RBI double that scored Osso and
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS). One inning later, Osso singled home
Jace Deiulio (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland HS) to make it 4-3, and later, a Frias single brought home Deiulio for the 5-3 final score.
Freshman
Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) had a big day for the Vikings, scoring the game-winning run in the fourth inning, while also earning his first career save, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
During the nightcap, Adirondack scored four times during the top of the first inning, and held on to defeat Westchester for the first time since the 2018 season, 6-4. Frias made it a 4-2 game during the second inning, belting a double that brought home Deiulio and
Brian Beehler (Pawling, NY/Pawling HS). After Adirondack made it 5-2 in the fifth, freshman
Don Hopper (Garrison, NY/Walter Panas HS) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-3. An inning later, Adirondack made it 6-3, before a
Weston Baronian (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) double scored Frias to make it 6-4, but that was as close as the Vikings would come.
Frias went 2 for 4 with two RBI's and a run scored, while Baronian went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman
Amolk Bhangu (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington HS) was outstanding in relief, allowing one run over two innings, striking out three.
Westchester Community College returns to action on Wednesday, March 9, when the Vikings host Monroe-Bronx at 2:30 p.m.
