(Saugerties, NY) - Freshman
Matt Jacobson (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley HS) hit his first career home run, a three-run blast to right field in the eighth inning, to lead the Westchester Community College Baseball team to a 9-8 win over Ulster Community College on Thursday afternoon at Ulster CC. With the win, the Vikings are now 19-11 overall, and 8-2 in NJCAA Region XV play.
Ulster (12-9, 8-4) led for much of the game, as the Senators held leads of 4-2 after three innings, 5-3 after six innings, and 7-5 after seven innings, but Westchester rallied to score four runs during the top of the eighth inning, and put the game away. During the dramatic eighth inning, freshman
Anthony Dolce (North Salem, NY/North Salem HS) blasted his fourth home run of the season, a solo blast to center field to make it 7-6. Then, freshman
AJ Falciglia (Elmsford, NY/Stepinac) walked, and moved to second base on a
Don Hopper (Garrison, NY/Walter Panas HS) single. That set the stage for Jacobson, who had entered the game as a pinch runner an inning earlier. Jacobson hit a three-run blast to right field for a 9-7 lead. Ulster scored one run during the bottom of the ninth inning, but would get no closer, as Westchester now leads Region XV by a game and a half.
Hopper went 3 for 4 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) went 3 for 6, while freshman
Nick Alvarez (Yonkers, NY/Cardinal Hayes) went 2 for 4 with three RBI's. Also for the Vikings, Falciglia scored four runs.
Freshman
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS) pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing six earned runs over nine solid innings, striking out six and walking only one to improve to 4-2 for the season.
Westchester CC and Ulster CC return to action on Friday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Saugerties, NY.
