Super 'Nova!' Freshman's Perfect Night Pushes Vikings Past Senators

Valhalla, NY – By far one of the best shooting performances of the season occurred last night as the Vikings hosted SUNY Ulster and defeated the Senators 91-81.

It was a shootout for the duration of the 40-minute game. Both teams would finish the night at or just around 50% shooting from the floor. The first-half saw Westchester go up early on the Senators before Ulster would go on a 11-0 run from the 16 minute mark to the 12:30 mark. The Vikings would add a little run of their own thanks to three 3-pointers from Yave Cruz putting them back up one with nine and a half minutes to play. Neither team would lead for more than five points from the 8:43 mark until halftime. Both Cruz and Josendy Nova would end the half with nine points and three 3-pointers made. Aaron Nicholas would add eight points while Elijah Hernandez contributed seven assists.

The Vikings would start strong going on a 9-2 run opening the second half of the game. The Senators, who were led by Kofi Mends, Jaiden Marshall, and Dominique Bautista with 10 points each, would get as close as two-points at the 10:50 mark before the Vikings would pull away with the Victory. Westchester would shoot a phenomenal 53% from the floor and 55% from beyond the arc. Nova would stay unstoppable going 5 for 5 on the floor in the second half, 2 for 2 from the charity stripe, and 2 for two from the 3-point line. Jojo would end the night perfect. 8 for 8 on the floor, 5 for 5 from beyond the arc, and 2 for 2 at the free-throw line. In total, he would total up 23 points, a career-high, four rebounds, and two assists. Not to be outdone, Yave Cruz would add 16 points thanks to five three-pointers on the night. Aaron Nicholas would also contribute 16 points on the night with five rebounds. Elijah Hernandez dished out a career-high 15 assists enroute to the win.

Westchester looks to their next game tomorrow, November 18th, when they travel to Middlesex County College for a 2pm tip-off.
