Selden, NY – Men's Basketball struggled to secure the season sweep over Suffolk on Saturday as they lost ground late, falling 69-62. Though the Vikings won handedly in the matchup earlier this year, traveling to Suffolk proved to be a much tougher challenge.
The game was a close one early on with both teams struggling to score a bit. At halftime, the game was knotted up at 36. Though Westchester was able to limit the Shark's scoring attack even more in the 2
nd half, it was their own struggles with scoring the ball that ultimately led to the Suffolk win.
Ed Beqiri (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac HS) and
Omar Nkonde (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall HS) had solid games with Nkonde notching another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Beqiri close behind with 16 and 8.
Yenfry Paulino (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland HS) also did solid work with 15 points. But outside of them the team just didn't shoot or score enough down the stretch, leading to the frustrating loss.
The Vikings' record now stands at 11-15 and 3-4 within Region XV. They round out regional play against Ulster on Tuesday, February 14
th at 7pm.
