Randloph, NJ - The SUNY Westchester Baseball team continues their hot start to the season yesterday, coming out on top of a game that saw over 30 hits and 32 runs in the 18-14 win versus County College of Morris. The Vikings offense scored in bunches getting contributions from up and down the lineup, scoring multiple runs in 6 of their 9 innings.
After a scoreless 1st inning for both teams, Westchester got on the board first, plating 4 runs in the 2nd. That lead was short lived though as Morris scored 5 of their won to take their first lead of the game. From there the scoring went back and forth, with each team retaking the lead each half inning until the 5th. Westchester took the lead for good in the top of the inning, when they scored 4 runs to lead the game 12-11. From there,
John Peteani (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) took over the pitching and put up 4 scoreless frames of baseball. After tiring a bit in the 9th, he gave up 3 runs and left the game with 2 outs and the bases loaded. That is where team ERA leader
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS) entered the game to close it out. He was able to notch the final out for his first save of the year and to seal the win.
Marc Stockhausen (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's HS) was one of 3 players who drove in 3 runs, by going 3 for 4 with a double.
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) and
Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff HS) also had 3 hits each and 3 RBIs while both scoring 2 runs each.
The win lifts the VIkings' season record to 20-3. They return to action on Thursday as they welcome Monroe Bronx. FIrst pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
