A Titan Of Industry! Frias' Walk-Off Propels Vikings to 7th Win!

3/5/23
West Harrison, NY – On a cloudy, windswept day at Silver Lake Park, the Vikings hosted a solid Morris squad from New Jersey for a noontime doubleheader. Westchester would come into the day riding a six game win-streak and their best start to the young season since 2019 when they went on a seven game win streak.

Game 1: 7-6 W

A thrilling victory! SUNY WCC would score first with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Titans offense would then slowly climb back on top for a three-two lead heading into the sixth. Westchester's offense would explode for another three runs to put them up two runs heading into the last inning of play. Morris wouldn't go down without a fight. With Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) on the mound for his second save attempt, the Titans would get three runs of their own to take a late six-five lead. The Viking magic wasn't done. In the bottom of the seventh, with both the tying and winning runs on, Luisbert Frias (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) would continue his hot start with a walk-off, two RBI, base hit for the win. The comeback marks the third time this season the Vikings made a late charge to victory.
Jackson Kossow (Somers HS/Yorktown Heights, NY) pitched well for SUNY WCC in his third start of the year. Over four and two thirds innings pitched, he struck out seven and gave up three earned runs in the no decision. Ambrosecchia would also add a double and two RBI's.

Game 2: 4-1 L

The Vikings now seven-game win streak would come to an unfortunate end in game two of the doubleheader. Westchester's hitters would go ice cold going two for 24 against the Titan pitching staff. The lone two hits would come from the bat of Freshman Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff HS/Briarcliff Manor, NY) who also added an RBI to his stat line. Thomas Browne (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY) would take the loss after another solid performance. In five and two-thirds innings pitched, Browne struck out 10 while only walking two and scattering six hits. Three of his four earned runs came from a three-run blast from Morris in the third.

With the split, the Vikings move to 7-1 on the year with three more games to be played before their Spring Break trip down to the RussMatt Invitational Tournament in Florida.
