North Branch, NJ -
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester HS) had himself a signature day by compiling 4 hits, 5 runs and 4 RBI's, including a home run, in the two wins versus Raritan Valley on Sunday. The team took the first game 16-5 while also edging the Lions 11-8 in game 2.
Game one started ugly for Westchester as they spotted Raritan five runs in the first inning.
Jackson Kossow (Yorktown Heights,NY/Somers HS) struggled early but but shaky defense to start the game on a cold day contributed to the challenge. Kossow then buckled down and said "no more" as he finished his outing strong by giving the team 5 solid innings to earn the victory. In the end, only two of the five runs scored were earned and Kossow raised his season record to 3-1.
The team also picked him up right away, plating 6 runs in the 3rd inning to give the Vikings the lead for good. Westchester got contributions from many as
Weston Baronian (River Vale, NJ/Passaic Valley HS) was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI's.
Marc Stockhausen (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's HS) also was 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, and 3 RBI's of his own.
The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game 2 in what turned out to be a much closer contest. Team leader in wins
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester HS) took the mound for the WCC sporting a sub .5 era. But he ran into trouble in the bottom of the 4th where Raritan plated 3 runs to tie the game. Fortunately for the Vikings, they kept answering in the top of the innings with scoring 3 runs in the 5th and 4 in the 6th. The Lions kept things close though scoring 2 in the bottom of the 5th and 3 in the bottom of the 6th. Westchester scored an insurance run in the top of the 7th to make it 11-8 to help
Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) slam the door in a 6-out save, his 3rd of the season. Osso is credited with the win to improve to 5-0, and though he was in the game for all eight runs scored, only 4 were earned.
In addition to Frias, Baronian was one of the hitting stars for Westchester as he was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI.
Patrick Poggi (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff HS) was also1-2 with 2 RBI.
The two wins bring the season record for the Vikings to a stellar 23-3. They return to action on Tuesday, April 4th when they welcome in Western Connecticut JV for a 3:30pm start.
