Groton, CT – The Vikings traveled to East District foe UConn Avery-Point on Saturday splitting a 12pm doubleheader against the Pointers. Westchester moves to 39-8 on the year.
GAME 1: 9-7 W
A comeback win! Down 5-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, SUNY WCC would put up three-runs to cut the Avery-Point lead down to two. UConn would add two-runs in the bottom half the fourth knocking out starting pitcher
Jackson Kossow (Somers HS/Yorktown Heights, NY). In came
John Peteani (Saunders HS/Yonkers, NY). In his two and two-thirds innings of work, Peteani would shutdown the Pointers offense holding them to no runs and one hit while striking out three. Westchester would complete their comeback thanks to a two-run homerun from
Luisbert Frias (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) and a two for four performance by
Ryan Osso (Eastchester HS/Eastchester, NY) who added a double and two RBI's.
Michael Cox (Walter Panas HS/Cortlandt Manor, NY) came in and shut the door with a one-out save.
GAME 2: 8-1 L
The nightcap of the doubleheader saw the Viking offense go cold. Only scattering four hits, Westchester's offense struck out 10 times and scored one lone run thanks to an RBI from
Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff HS/Briarcliff, NY).
Thomas Browne (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY) would take his second loss of the season throwing three innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out two.
Alex Korn (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY) would come in relief for the final two-outs of the game only giving up one hit.
The Vikings look to close the regular season out with a rare 2pm game on Sunday May 7
th against conference foe Orange Community College.
