Valhalla, NY – Men's Soccer opened up their first week being a nationally ranked squad with an 1-0-1 record defeating Bronx CC 8-0 under the lights at Valhalla High School Tuesday evening and tying #7 ranked Monroe-Bronx Express 1-1 yesterday afternoon.
Tuesday Oct. 1: 8-0 W vs. Bronx:
Played under the lights at Valhalla High School, the Vikings definitely shined as this would be the first game becoming ranked in the NJCAA D3 Poll at #10. Westchester would score early and often in the first half netting four goals before the first-half ended. Freshman
Demoni Gordon would continue his hot scoring streak netting two goals. Not to be outdone, Francesco Giglio and
Joshua Leal would also find the back of the goal adding to the Viking lead.
The second half saw much of the same for Westchester as
Oliver Tecuapetla would add into the scoring mix in the 58
th minute.
Christian Antunez would score in the 79
th minute pushing the Viking lead to six. Giglio and Leal would close out the match with a goal each making the final score 8-0 over the Broncos. Westchester's stellar defensive play would hold Bronx to only two shots in the game.
The Vikings would look forward to Thursday as they would host #7 ranked Monroe-Bronx.
Thursday Oct. 3: 1-1 T vs. Monroe-Bronx
A top-10 showdown in Valhalla! Westchester was eager to continue to play great soccer especially against tough regional opponents.
The Vikings would get out on top first thanks to a
Kenneth Concha goal assisted by none other than
Demoni Gordon in the 20
th minute. The rest of the first half would turn into a stalemate with both teams getting off roughly the same amount of shots, 6-5 in favor of SUNY WCC.
The beginning part of the second half would see much of the same from both teams until the 68
th minute when the Express' Dieuvenson Leger would net the tying goal. However, that would be the only goal Viking goalie
Jonathan Bautista would allow in a barrage of shots taken by Monroe-Bronx.
The tie continues Westchester's undefeated streak pushing the Vikings record to a stellar 6-0-3 on the year.
SUNY WCC will travel to Rockland Community College on Tuesday October 8
th for a 4pm match.
