Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to Receiving Votes SUNY Orange

Valhalla, NY - The Vikings three-game losing streak came to an end last night against last year's Region 15 Champion and currently Receiving Votes SUNY Orange 98-87 putting them at 3-4 on the early part of the season and 1-1 in Conference play.

The first half of the game saw a lot of back and forth action between the two teams. SUNY Westchester would see a lead change six different times throughout the half while shooting 33% from beyond the arc. The Vikings defense seemed to be on point as well holding the Colts (6-1, 2-0 MHC) to 12.5% from the three-point line, however, Orange would out-rebound Westchester 25 to 13. Elijah Hernandez would help the Vikings stay close to the Colts scoring 13 points while Chris Kirkland would score 10. Westchester would be down 45-44 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room for the second half, Orange's offense seemed to have woken up with Westchester still playing good basketball. Both teams would shoot just over 30% from beyond the arc and go 70% or better from the free throw line, however, three of the Colts starting five would combine for 38 points to ultimately lift them to victory.

Westchester would be led by none other than Mid-Hudson Conference Player of the Week Elijah Hernandez who had a team high 28 points, six assists, and two steals. Chris Kirkland would contribute 18 points thanks to four three-pointers while Mujahid Dine Yacoubou would have himself a double-double scoring 16 points and having 10 rebounds. Orange would be led by Jabari Phillip who had a game-high 30 points.

The Vikings look to bounce back to the win column when they travel to Randolph, NJ as they play in the County College of Morris Tournament. Game one will feature SUNY WCC taking on Morris on Saturday November, 23rd, for a 1pm game.
