Valhalla, NY – Men's basketball fell to Conference/Regional foe SUNY Orange last night 86-62 to fall to 9-15 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.
The Vikings started the game off with an early five point lead on the ranked Colts before their offense would go on a 15-0 run bringing the clock down to 11 minutes before the next SUNY WCC bucket. Westchester would then cut the Colt lead down to four before another quick 7-0 run by SUNY OCC would bring their lead back up to 11 with eight minutes to go in the first half. Westchester would get as close as five, however the Colts would hold off a Viking comeback heading into halftime.
Wyatt Triestman would lead SUNY WCC with nine points while both
Jaiden Brown and
Yave Cruz would add seven points.
The second half saw Orange go up by as much as 25 thanks to some key baskets hit and turnovers produced by the Vikings. Westchester would match the Colts in three-point percentage and slightly edge them in field goal percentage, however, Orange would go 80% from the free-throw line while the Vikings would shoot 40% from the charity stripe. Westchester was led by
Elijah Hernandez who added 11 points in the half while
Yenfry Paulino scored 10 points.
Overall, the Vikings were led by Triestman who had a team-high 16 points and 16 rebounds followed by 13 points from Hernandez and 12 points from Paulino. The Colts were led by Mat Shea who had a game-high 19 points.
SUNY WCC has a quick turnaround with a home game tomorrow, February 10
th, against Suffolk Community College right here in Viking Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 1pm.
